Kele Stewart to Speak at HHH Virtual Meeting Monday, August 11 @ 7 PM
Kele Stewart is a Professor at University of Miami, with a primary appointment
in the School of Law and secondary appointment in the School of Education and
Human Development. Her teaching, research, and policy work focuses on improving
outcomes for children and families from under-resourced communities.
Professor Stewart teaches family law and co-directs the Children & Youth Law
Clinic, where she supervises law students in civil and administrative cases on behalf
of children and young adults in the foster care system. She co-founded the University
of Miami site of First Star Academy, an inter-disciplinary program to provide holistic
college education readiness and social-emotional support to high school students in
foster care.
In 2011, Professor Stewart was awarded a J. William Fulbright Scholar grant to
study child protection in her homeland Trinidad and Tobago. She serves on the
board of the Miami-Dade Community Based Care Alliance, Educate Tomorrow
and SEED School of Miami. Professor Stewart earned a B.S. in Human Develop-
ment and Family Studies from Cornell University and a J.D. from N.Y.U. Law School.
